Diet and other fun stuff...
Diet isn't a bad word. It's not the buzz word at the moment which is eat clean train mean and all the other variations out there which suggest that unless you're squatting 60kg you haven't a hope!
But diet is important. Even the most ardent lifter will tell you that half the battle is what they put into their body in terms of fuelling their workout and for muscle gain and fat loss.
I regularly see Martina at the Roseville clinic in Terenure to keep track of my weight and to make sure I'm on top of it. It can be difficult to manage your dietary habits when you're working in an office and you're always busy especially if like me, you're prone to stress eating and worse still, prone to easy weight gain. I'm also under 5 ft so a 3 lb weight gain on me looks like half a stone would look on a taller person. There's no hiding it!
I'm working on getting slimmer this Summer and I'm really working hard this July to be at my best and feeling healthy and happy on holidays at the start of August.
This week, I'm aiming for (*deep breath*) 3 lbs! I lost 1.5 lbs last week and 4 lbs the week before that...which was necessary because I hadn't seen Martina in about a month and between work trips to London and too many brunches (read: mimosas and margaritas) I was up almost half a stone. Not good.
So, it's back to my fighting weight, i.e. my wedding weight or perhaps a little lower depending on muscle mass. Martina's scales tell you what's fat versus muscle and water so you know when you're just bloated and when you've actually gained or lost weight.
Martina has set me a challenge this week. To eat often but little making sure I'm never hungry, while losing weight. Martina aims for a healthy 2 lbs a week with some better weeks when possible. The 3 lb aim is all me this week!
It's crucial for me to track my meals to feel in control of my weight loss. So as cringey as it is, I'll be keeping track here and hoping for the magic number when I see Martina and get weighed on Saturday!
I was sick most of the day so it was lots of water and when I felt better at dinner time I had a homemade tortilla pizza made on a wholewheat brown tortilla.
2 ryvita with a poached egg.
1 mini babybel with an apple and some cherries.
Half a chicken breast with spinach and salad.
Tea and 1 gingernut biscuit (my weakness).
Let's see! Check back tomorrow!
Martina herself. An expert on CBT based weight loss and nutrition and very nice to boot!
